The following are resources for finding either Creative Commons or free images, including those in the public domain.

Always check the rights information on an image.

Creative Commons image search
Images are in public domain or CC licensed. Click on image for CC license info and copy and paste attribution information.

Images and other digital cultural heritage from Europe.
Flickr Commons
After conducting a search, click on the "any license" drop-down menu to choose from options including "all creative commons" and "modifications allowed."

Free to use and reuse content.
NASA Image and Video Library
