Stuffed and Starved offers an investigation into the the global food network and how it has contributed to two major global problems: starvation and obesity.

Raj Patel examines the global food network--from colossal supermarkets in California to India's wrecked paddy-fields, to Africa's bankrupt coffee farms. The revised edition (2012) that's been chosen for College-Wide Reading also addresses issues like land-grabbing in Africa, spiking worldwide diabetes rates, dramatic new Chinese food policies, climate change, and the return of the "food riot."

The author

Raj Patel a professor at University of Texas, Austin and a senior research associate at Rhodes University, South Africa. He is a global activist who has also worked for the World Bank, the World Trade Organization, and the United Nations. With Steve James he has created Generation Food, an organization dedicated to telling stories of global food insecurity.
